Daniel, April and I do a yearly adventure to the Zoo. This is one of the great highlights of our school year. We love it!! Usually we try to do this in April because we can still get nice cooler days. This year however it got pushed into the middle of May with little hope of having cool weather. We have already been experiencing 90 degree weather with high humidity. Low and behold on Sunday we had a cool front blow in with rain cooling our temperatures into the 70's. Very remarkable for May. We jumped at the chance and decided Monday we would go on our Zoo adventure.
April woke up the next morning with a runny nose. We decided this was our only window of opportunity before the humid blast of summer when you're just a puddle walking around the zoo and the animals have no interest in making any kind of appearance. So off we went with a box of tissues, meds., and a good attitude.
Daniel got a little video recorder for Christmas, he loves making little movies. The Lion's are resting in the shade with a cool breeze.
Reflecting Pool

Documenting reptiles.

One reptile that forgot to put his color on this morning. Very strange albino crocodile.

Poor little April resting and cleaning a runny nose.

She soon pepped up (after some meds.) for one of her favorite animals the giraffe.

She was even feeling well enough to swim with the Piranha.

Another one of April's favorites are the Flamingos, they are pretty neat but very stinky.

She even sat on the Mother Eagles eggs in the eagle nest.

Later they did some Ground Hog digging

Exploring caves.

Daniel has conquered the geese!

When then set off for the Children's Petting Zoo area.

April was able to brush down some goats.

Washing up afterwards is very important, we don't want any goat flu.

Last of all we took a nice relaxing ride on the train. All in all it was an absolutely beautiful day. I love Houston, Texas.

April was such a good sport all day with hardly a complaint. When she got home she went straight to bed with a fever. Today (Tuesday) she has a full blown cold, stuffed nose, runny, and scratchy throat. She says it was all worth it for our almost perfect day at the Zoo.
